FARBEN DER DEMOKRATIE

What does democracy mean to you?

A man with a gray beard, wearing a yellow jacket, black cap, and sunglasses, is painting a rainbow-colored mural on a large surface. He is holding a paintbrush in one hand and a small container of bright blue paint in the other.
A tall, colorful fabric installation hanging from a window of a white building with multiple windows. Several people are gathered around, some standing and some sitting on benches, on a paved street.

Farben der Demokratie is a participatory art project exploring how democratic values can be reflected, discussed and expressed through colour. Eight values were translated into eight colours, inviting people to choose the one that resonated with them most.

During a public action in the city centre, more than 80 participants came together to transform a 30-metre-long upcycled canvas. Each person expressed their chosen value by adding its colour to a pre-drawn field, gradually creating a collective stripe pattern.

The central square became a lively space for dialogue, participation and shared expression. Together, the colours formed a strong visual statement for democracy in the heart of the city.
